Father’s Day Tribute To My Granpa

Thomas Vincent gazing at water

My Granpa used to spend hours every afternoon gazing over the water from his rocking chair.

Deeply admiring his wise, calming presence, I began trying to emulate him as a young boy.

I remember joining him on the porch one afternoon. After observing him for a few minutes, I asked, "Granpa, what are you doing?"

"I'm watching the water," he looked at me and replied with a gentle smile ☺.

After trying that for a little bit, I asked, "well, what are you thinking about 🤔?"

"I'm not really thinking about anything," his soft gaze resting on the horizon.

Then I tried my absolute hardest not to think about anything! "Well, how do you not think about anything!?"

"You see that bird over there," he pointed..."that wave glistening...I'm just watching 🧘🏻."

I've come to realize through my practice, my Granpa was my first mindfulness teacher. He's by my side in every moment, and when I'm present, I feel him with me 💫.

Happy Father's Day Granpa...thank you for giving me life 💙
